About Creative Drumming
CREATIVE DRUMMING is an interactive multi-dimensional educational system developed by DAVE BREWER. The modular system utilizes print, audio and video materials to introduce the student to a variety of topics and stimulate progress. Students are taught the theory and practical application of utilizing drums and percussion in all styles. Students play along with current and historical music CDs. Students monitor and reinforce their progress with a personal workbook.
Personalized private instruction is offered in comprehensive five-week sessions, which include core curriculum and student electives. The system develops dynamic drumset mastery and includes workshops, clinics, mini-courses, jams, master classes, instructional drum circles and private instruction. All events include hands-on participation with real drums and percussion. Students are also given the opportunity to advance at their own pace and perform in small ensembles. Students receive quarterly evaluation and planning reviews.
Topics include rudiments, rhythms, rolls, beats, styles, fills, solos, technique, four-part coordination and independence, Moeller Technique, cross-sticking, odd times, foot development, hand control, brushes, mallets, patterns, reading, ethnic world beats, polyrhythms, hand percussion, building the “groove” and steady timekeeping.
Creative Drumming selects an outstanding student of the month and student of the year based on their consistent progress, exceptional performance and musical activities over the course of a year. RhythmZone is a monthly online newsletter presenting a variety of topics including student activities. Rhythm Reunion, a yearly celebration and showcase, is held each Spring at a major Cleveland music venue. The event features guest artists, jam sessions, a raffle and awards for the best homemade hand-percussion instruments.
Students are encouraged and coached to have fun, explore new
possibilities and develop their own unique style.
